Meniere’s Disease Disease Overview
Ménière’s Disease (MD) is a condition marked by recurrent vertigo (vertigo), potential hearing loss, and ringing in the ears (tinnitus). It’s linked to a dilatation of the ear’s membranous labyrinth (endolymphatic hydrops).
Dizziness (vertigo) attacks in MD strike unexpectedly and linger for a few hours. The impression that the room or things are revolving around the patient is known as vertigo. The dizziness usually fades over time. Nausea and vomiting are possible side effects of the attacks.
Meniere’s Disease is most typically diagnosed in people in their fifth decade of life. However, symptoms may appear in young adults or the elderly in some circumstances. Males and females appear to be equally affected by the disease. However, a few studies have found that it was more common in older people, with higher BMI categories, and were white and female.
The diagnosis of Meniere’s disease is by exclusion, and a careful history is the most important guide to a correct diagnosis.
